The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a public health advisory due to a surge in cholera cases across 30 Local Government Areas in nine states.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, the Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, revealed that over 1,141 suspected cases and 30 deaths have been reported, with Bayelsa, Lagos, Abia, and Zamfara being the most affected.

Attributing the outbreak to poor sanitation, inadequate access to clean water, and open defecation, the NCDC also warned about other health concerns, including Lassa fever, Mpox, and Cerebrospinal Meningitis, while urging Nigerians to adopt preventive measures such as regular hand washing, proper waste disposal, and early medical attention when symptoms are observed.
