NCDC CONFIRMS MORE LASSA FEVER DEATHS.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says that Lassa fever is surging across the country, with a higher death rate and more infections despite ongoing public health interventions.
The NCDC, in its latest Situation Report for Epidemiological Week 22 (May 26 to June 1) on Friday, revealed that about 747 confirmed cases and 142 deaths have been recorded this year, marking a case fatality rate of 19.0%, with the disease has spreading across 18 states and 96 local government areas.
The Centre said it has intensified response efforts, deploying rapid response teams, launching community sensitization campaigns, and activating an e-learning platform to train health workers.
Experts have also expressed concern about late presentation of cases, poor sanitation, and limited health-seeking behavior, which hinder effective containment.
