UTME: JAMB TO CONDUCT ADDITIONAL MOP-UP EXAM FOR ABSENT CANDIDATES.
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will conduct additional mop-up examinations for candidates who missed the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
This was announced at a meeting with stakeholders in Abuja on Wednesday by JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who said the mop-up exam will accommodate candidates who missed the main examination due to various reasons.
Oloyede clarified that UTME is a placement test, not an achievement test, stating that its purpose is to rank candidates for available spaces in institutions, stressing that a high UTME score is not the sole determinant of admission, as combined performance, including post-UTME scores and school assessments, plays a significant role.
The registrar dismissed claims of ethnic bias or incompetence, while attributing the administrative failure to unforeseen circumstances.
Commending his team's efforts and appreciating the resilience shown by candidates despite the challenges, Oloyede urged stakeholders to stop ethnic profiling in the education sector, noting that many criticisms of JAMB's operations are rooted in ignorance.
