POLICE ARREST PARENT, FOUR OTHERS FOR ASSAULTING ONDO SCHOOL VICE PRINCIPAL OVER EXAM MALPRACTICE
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five individuals, including a parent, in connection with the brutal assault on the Vice Principal of Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure, Mr. Alexander Rotifa.
According to reports, the incident stemmed from Mr. Rotifa’s attempt to uphold examination integrity during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). He had allegedly confiscated an Android phone from an SS3 student caught using it to engage in exam malpractice.
The student later informed his mother, Mrs. Dorcas Asije, who reportedly mobilized a group of thugs to confront and attack the vice principal. The attackers, according to eyewitnesses, arrived at the school premises and overpowered police officers who were called in to protect the vice principal, dragging him out of a police vehicle and beating him severely.
A source said, “When the thugs arrived to carry out the assault, the school immediately contacted the police. However, the assailants overpowered the officers and violently attacked the vice principal.”
Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Monday, June 2, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Alayande, said five suspects, including Mrs. Dorcas Asije, have been apprehended.
“In response to the assault on the Vice Principal, Mrs. Dorcas Asije and four other suspects were arrested by officers of the Ondo State Police Command,” the statement read. “Acting on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) led a tactical team to ensure their swift apprehension. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.”
Mr. Alayande urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Ministry of Education has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack and ensure appropriate measures are taken.
