UN CHIEF URGES WORLD LEADERS TO KEEP TWO-STATE SOLUTION 'ALIVE'.
UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has called on world leaders to revive efforts toward a two-State solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, warning that there is no alternative.
Guterres, who made the call at UN Headquarters in New York, emphasized the importance of keeping the two-State solution perspective alive, especially given the current situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
He expressed deep disappointment over the Security Council's failure to adopt a resolution demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages, which was vetoed by the United States despite support from other members.
Emphasizing that only a permanent ceasefire, unconditional release of hostages, and unimpeded humanitarian access would allow meaningful relief to civilians in Gaza, Guterres stressed the need for an action-oriented path toward a comprehensive and lasting peace based on the two-State formula.
