SSANU,NASU REJECT N50BN DISBURSEMENT FORMULA, DEMANDS EQUITY.

1 min read

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of non-academic unions in Nigerian universities has rejected the Federal Government's formula for disbursing N50 billion to university-based unions.

The allocation gives 80% to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), while SSANU, NASU, and NAAT are left to share 20%.

The unions, in a joint statement signed by NASU General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi; and SSANU National President, Mohammed Ibrahim; described the allocation as "grossly unfair, provocative, and unacceptable."

They warned that it could deepen existing divides between teaching and non-teaching staff and lead to industrial unrest, stressing that non-teaching staff are key contributors to the university system and deserve fair recognition.

The unions, therefore, called on the Federal Government to urgently review and reverse the distribution formula, warning that proceeding with the current arrangement could provoke widespread dissatisfaction and industrial disharmony, stressing that "the time to correct this injustice is now."
