1 min read

The Sokoto State Government says that proactive measures are being taken to mitigate potential flooding in the state.

The government also said it has convened a stakeholders' meeting with relevant agencies and security organizations to fine-tune programs and response mechanisms.

The Commissioner for Water Resources, Aminu Abdullahi, revealed that the government is aware of the 2025 predictions by NiMET and NIHSA and is working to strengthen early warning systems and flood risk management.

Abdullahi said the government has warned people against activities that could exacerbate flooding, such as tree felling and indiscriminate waste disposal.

He noted that the government, in collaboration with agencies like NiMET, NIHSA, and NEMA, is sensitizing the public on flood prevention and mitigation strategies.

The government urged the public to keep their environment clean, clear drains, and avoid constructions in flood-prone areas.
