SHETTIMA URGES LEADERS TO GROOM BETTER SUCCESSORS FOR DEMOCRACY SUSTENANCE.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has highlighted the importance of succession planning in leadership, stating that Nigerian leaders must groom successors who are better than them for the sustainability of democracy.
Shettima made the call at a book launch in Abuja, stressing that a political culture without succession planning is designed to fail.
He commended President Bola Tinubu as a model for succession planning, highlighting his ability to identify and mentor future leaders.
Shettima urged leaders to deliberately nurture, train, and mentor young people to succeed them, emphasizing that leadership is not just about performance but also about sacrifice and mentorship.
Emphasizing that continuity is not accidental but a result of foresight, which leaders must institutionalize across all spheres of national life, the Vice President encouraged leaders to bridge the gap between potential and opportunity and build a nation where every child knows the path of leadership is paved by preparation, not privilege.
