The Nigerian Senate has set up an ad hoc committee to organize a three-day National Security Summit.
This followed a motion sponsored by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, highlighting the country's rising insecurity issues, including banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism.
The summit is expected to bring together stakeholders from all levels of government, traditional institutions, and affected communities to discuss solutions and review the country's security policies.
In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasized that security is everybody's business, and a holistic debate is necessary to find lasting solutions.
The Senate has also urged the federal government to review and revamp the country's security policies based on the outcomes of the summit, to find effective solutions to the hydra-headed insecurity challenges facing the nation.
