The Nigerian Senate has passed the Rivers State 2025 budget for second reading, with a total sum of ₦1.48 trillion.

Recall that the Senate assumed legislative powers over Rivers State due to the ongoing state of emergency imposed by President Bola Tinubu.

The budget was read by the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Bamidele Opeyemi, and passed through voice vote without opposition, with Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, who supported the bill, stressing the need for immediate legislation to ensure the people of Rivers State feel the presence of government.

Thereafter, the budget was referred to the Ad-hoc Committee on overseeing Rivers State of Emergency, which will report back within two weeks, as part of the efforts to ensure continued governance and service delivery in the state during the emergency period.
