A combined team of Nigerian Army troops, police operatives, and local hunters have rescued 31 kidnapped passengers after a violent night attack on commuters along the Apata-Obajana road in Kogi State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 11:50 pm on May 8, when armed bandits ambushed two buses traveling from Lagos to Kano and Katsina, with a total of 34 passengers.
The rescue operation was initiated after a local hunter alerted the troops, prompting a swift response from the joint team, forcing the criminals to abandon 31 captives and flee into the forest.
Four rescued passengers sustained machete injuries, with one victim was shot in the left thigh, and seven passengers remain missing.
Security forces have intensified efforts to locate and free the remaining victims.
