REPS SPEAKER HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY FOR GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has emphasized the importance of renewable energy for global development policy. 


Abbas made this known while opening the First Legislative Conference and Expo on Renewable Energy in Lagos, highlighting Nigeria's legislative efforts to promote clean energy.


The Speaker pointed out that globally, 585 gigawatts of renewable energy were added in 2024, accounting for over 92% of new power capacity. 


He commended President Bola Tinubu's administration for passing the Electricity Act of 2023 and approving $1 billion for rural solar expansion.


The Speaker also called on stakeholders to work together to drive Nigeria's transition to clean and inclusive energy systems, while stressing the need to convert conference resolutions into actionable legislation and impactful investment.
