President Bola Tinubu has extended his warmest congratulations to Pope Leo XIV on his election as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church across the globe.


The President, in a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, commended the Conclave for electing American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th Pope, celebrating the new Pontiff's message of faith, hope, and peace that has resonated worldwide.


President Tinubu expressed joy with the leadership and members of the Catholic Church in Nigeria, highlighting the longstanding and valuable relations between Nigeria and the Holy See.


He acknowledged the Catholic Church's significant contributions to peacebuilding, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and promoting technology for human development.


Emphasizing that Pope Leo XIV's election marks a new chapter in the Catholic Church's history, reinforcing values of love, humanity, and charity, particularly for the underprivileged, he prayed that God grants the new Pope good health and wisdom to spread the message of peace and love globally.
