The Nasarawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic death of five children found locked inside an abandoned vehicle in the Agyaragu community.
According to the command spokesman, Ramhan Nansel, the children, aged between 6 and 10, were discovered unresponsive on Sunday around 5:30 pm, after the police had been alerted by a resident who reported the incident.
Nansel said the police officers promptly evacuated the children to Aro Hospital, Agyaragu, where a medical doctor confirmed them death due to suspected suffocation and their bodies were later released to their parents for burial due to severe heat burns.
The state Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
CP Jauro-Mohammed also cautioned parents, guardians, and vehicle owners to be vigilant and ensure children do not access parked or abandoned vehicles without supervision.
