The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four suspects, including 21-year-old Chidera Ako, for allegedly staging his abduction and collecting N2 million ransom from his parents.

The command’s Spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed in a statement issued in Enugu on Tuesday, that the suspects were caught on May 24 while attempting to withdraw the money.

Ndukwe revealed that Ako had orchestrated his own kidnapping, after which the accomplices demanded N10 million ransom from his parents, sending a video of him bound and beaten.

He noted that the parents paid N2 million, adding that the suspects, who were swiftly arrested by police operatives, have confessed to the crime and they will be arraigned upon completion of investigations.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, has ordered further detention for anyone linked to the crime and advised the public to report suspected kidnappings promptly and avoid hasty ransom payments.
