The Organized Labour in Abia State has appealed to Governor Alex Otti to implement the new minimum wage of N70,000 for certain categories of workers including environmental health officers, health workers, and veterinary officers.
The organized Labour made the appeal in a joint statement by the State NLC Chairman, Ogbonnaya Okoro, and his TUC counterpart, Ihechi Enogwe, during the 2025 May Day celebration, warning that industrial peace cannot be guaranteed without implementing the minimum wage for these workers.
In response, Governor Otti, while assuring that the government would consider the requests and prioritize workers' welfare, outlined efforts to improve workers' lives, including payment of over N30 billion in salary arrears owed by the previous administration.
