The Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the recent attack on a private radio station in Yenagoa.
The incident occurred when gunmen attacked the station on two consecutive days, over the weekend, stealing valuables such as mobile phones, recorders, and operational gadgets.
The Council, in a statement jointly signed on Monday by the State Council Chairman, Tonye Yemoleigha, and the Secretary, Stanley Imgbi, described the attack as an assault on press freedom and the media community.
Expressing gratitude that no lives were lost during the incident, Yemoleigha also called on the police to investigate and arrest the perpetrators.
He also urged the Commissioner of Police to station a patrol van near the media house for added security, given its isolated location.
