The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has denied shielding an officer accused of misconduct from investigation.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Friday Ekerete, made this known at a press briefing in Uyo on Friday, emphasizing that the NSCDC does not interfere with investigations into personnel misconduct or corruption.
The allegations against the command’s Head of Anti-vandal Operations, Michael Asibor, included harassment, extortion, and involvement in illegal oil deals, as reported by an online medium.
Ekerete confirmed that no formal petitions regarding Asibor's conduct had been received, as he described the online report as malicious, asserting the officer's strong commitment to his duties.
Expressing confidence in Asibor's abilities and urging anyone with prior petitions to resubmit them, assuring that the State Commandant, Bashar Hussaini, would conduct a thorough investigation, he called for careful consideration before making allegations to avoid damaging officers' reputations.
