The Nigeria Governors Spouses' Forum has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its efforts against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

According to them, the success of these measures will contribute to the realization of President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Forum made this known in a communique read by the first lady of Ogun state, Bamidele Dapo Abiodun on behalf of the Chairperson of the Forum and first lady of Kwara state, Professor Olufolake Abdulrasaq, at the end of a training workshop organized by the NDLEA.

The Governors’ wives decried the alarming rate of drug use in Nigeria and its impact on individuals, families, and communities.

They called for a state of emergency to be declared on drug use and illicit trafficking, as well as urgent concerted efforts to address the complex public health and security challenges posed by the menace.

The Forum also resolved to collaborate with the NDLEA to establish State Drug Control Committees and Local Government Drug Abuse Committees, and promote sustainable development initiatives to tackle the root causes of drug abuse and ensure long-term community health and resilience.

They also pledged to support the Drug Abuse Prevention Treatment and Care programmes in states.
