NIGERIA, META LAUNCH AL ACCELERATOR PROGRAMME.
The Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy has collaborated with Meta to launch the Llama Impact Accelerator, promoting AI development in Nigeria.
The Minister, Dr. Bosun Tijani, confirmed this on Tuesday in a meeting with the Head of Public Policy for Anglophone West Africa at Meta, Sade Dada, describing the partnership as a significant step in Nigeria’s mission to nurture a thriving AI ecosystem and drive national development through innovation.
Tijanni said the initiative aims to nurture a thriving AI ecosystem, drive national development, and address national challenges through innovation.
In her remarks, Dada explained that the eight-month program, which targets early-stage startups using open-source Llama models in four key areas: agriculture, security and safety, healthcare, and a 'wild card' category for high-impact innovations, includes a six-week incubation phase with technical training and mentorship, followed by six months of extended support.
She added that Meta aims to empower communities through open-source AI, tailored to Nigeria's unique development challenges, providing infrastructure, tools, and mentorship to build responsible solutions
