NESREA SHUTS 25 FACILITIES OVER ENVIRONMENTAL VIOLATIONS.
The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has shut down 25 facilities in four states, Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, and Rivers, for violating environmental regulations.
A statement issued on Friday in Abuja by NESREA’s Assistant Director of Press, Nwamaka Ejiofor, revealed that the facilities, from various sectors, were found guilty of environmental crimes such as refusing to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments, failing to carry out Environmental Audits, and lacking functional effluent treatment plants.
The statement disclosed that the sealed facilities include pharmaceutical companies, construction firms, and other industries.
NESREA's Director-General, Professor Innocent Barikor, has urged facility operators to comply with environmental laws, warning that the agency will continue to conduct enforcement exercises to protect the environment and deter non-compliance.
