Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have seized opioids worth over N3.2 billion in separate operations at Apapa and Port Harcourt ports.
According to a statement on Sunday in Abuja by the NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, 3 million pills of tapentadol and carisoprodol worth N2.1 billion were intercepted in a container at the Port Harcourt Port complex.
In a similar operation at Apapa Port, NDLEA operatives discovered 169,800 bottles of codeine syrup worth over N1.1 billion concealed in a shipment declared as car parts and accessories.
Babafemi said these seizures bring the total value of intercepted drugs to N3.2 billion, adding that officers of the agency also intercepted 250 grams of cocaine concealed in female headgear bound for Australia at a courier company in Lagos.
The NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa, has commended the officers involved in the operations, praising their efforts in the reduction of drug supply reduction and demand.
