KOGI POLICE CONFIRMS DEATH OF RETIRED MAJOR IN ABDUCTORS DEN AFTER PAYING 10M RANSOM.
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed that a retired Army Major, Joe Ajayi, aged 76, has been killed by his abductors after his family paid a N10 million ransom.
The command spokesman, Williams Ovye-Aya, confirmed that Ajayi was kidnapped from his home in Kogi on May 21, noting that despite the ransom payment, the kidnappers left his lifeless body, which was later recovered and taken to a hospital mortuary.
The police have confirmed the incident and assured that they will investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
Community leaders have also corroborated the story, saying the kidnappers initially demanded N50 million but settled for N10 million after the victim's health deteriorated due to lack of medication.
The incident has sparked concern about insecurity in the area, with Senator Sunday Karimi describing it as a "very unfortunate and sad development," lamenting the widespread kidnapping in Kogi West, saying people are afraid to leave their homes.
