JUNE 12: TINUBU CARRIES ABIOLA'S DEMOCRATIC TORCH - SHETTIMA.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima says that history has returned the baton of democratic struggle to President Bola Tinubu, who he described as a trusted ally of late Moshood Abiola, decades after June 12.
Representing President Tinubu at the Democracy Day lecture in Abuja, Shettima described Abiola as a patriot who gave everything for Nigeria, noting that his sacrifice has become a guiding light for the country's democratic journey, emphaasizing that Abiola's dream did not die in vain but became a national covenant and enduring resolve among Nigerians.
Commending President Tinubu, saying his leadership mirrors the spirit and conviction of the Abiola-Kingibe ticket that was denied in 1993, he called for strong support for the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging Nigerians to unite and guard democracy.
The event featured notable speakers, including Professor Samuel Egwu, who highlighted the importance of sustained commitment to democracy, and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, who emphasized that democracy thrives on collective effort and resilience.
The ceremony also included the unveiling of three books: ‘Tinubunomics’, ‘Leading with Courage’, and ‘Turning Challenges into Opportunities’.
