Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has revived the state-owned transport company, Benue Links, with 100 new buses and expanded services into haulage and water transportation.
The State Commissioner for Power, Renewable Energy, and Transport, Omale Omale, who recalled that the company was comatose when the governor took office, halted its planned sale and prioritized revitalization, revealed that it has since undergone significant transformations, including terminal upgrades, diversification into haulage and mini-bus services, and acquisition of a permanent terminal in Abuja.
He announce that the company has also slashed transport fares, making travel more affordable for citizens, noting that a trip from Makurdi to Abuja now costs N10,000 in AC buses, compared to N15,000-N20,000 charged by others.
Omale said the state government has also subsidized transportation for people living with disabilities by 50%, saying that the revival of Benue Links forms part of the government's broader effort to boost infrastructure and social inclusion in the state.
