FORMER PRESIDENT JONATHAN WARNS AGAINST LOOMING ONE-PARTY SYSTEM IN NIGERIA.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that Nigeria's drift into a one-party state could be detrimental to the country, stressing that adopting a one-party system should be a deliberate and well-designed process, not achieved through manipulation or personal interests.
Jonathan issued the warning on Wednesday in Abuja while paying a tribute to the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark, at a memorial lecture and day of tribute.
This comes amid concerns over recent defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which has weakened the opposition and some PDP governors also expressing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second-term bid.
The former president cited Julius Nyerere's Tanzania as an example of a successful one-party system, but stressed that Nigeria's complex ethnic, religious, and political landscape demands a more inclusive and carefully designed political framework.
