FOREIGN HERDERS BEHIND MOST VIOLENT ATTACKS ON NIGERIAN COMMUNITIES- DHQ.

1 min read

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said that most violent attacks on local communities and killings of farmers in Plateau, Benue, and other parts of Nigeria are perpetrated by foreign herders.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, explained that the way these herders speak and appear often reveals their non-Nigerian origin.

Kangye noted that the Hausa language has different versions and intonations in various countries, making it possible to identify foreigners.

He acknowledged that some Nigerian herders also get involved in conflicts over farm encroachment, but emphasized that most violence is caused by foreigners who enter Nigeria through porous borders.

Kangye, therefore, stressed the need for collaboration among security agencies to address insecurity and ensure that those entering the country are accounted for.
