The federal government has reacted to a viral video featuring a popular Nigerian pastor, who advised the public to disregard medical advice on salt consumption.
The Ministry of Health, in a statement by the Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, warned against misinformation that endangers public health, emphasizing the risks of excessive salt intake, including hypertension, stroke, and heart disease.
The government acknowledged the influence of religious leaders but stressed the importance of evidence-based information and consulting licensed healthcare providers.
Emphasizing that science and faith do not need to be at odds, the government reaffirmed its commitment to respectful engagement with all sectors, including religious communities, to advance the nation's health goals.
