1 min read

The Federal Government has announced plans to establish a Child Protection and Development Agency to protect and promote children's welfare nationwide.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, announced this initiative on Monday at a news conference ahead of the 2025 Children’s Day celebration in Abuja.

According to her, the agency will provide a comprehensive framework to address children's unique needs and vulnerabilities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development.

The Minister further said that it will also play a critical role in safeguarding children's rights, preventing abuse and exploitation, and providing support services for vulnerable children.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim revealed that a National Child Protection Database and Child Welfare Index will be set up to track progress and guide policy decisions.

She explained that the initiative is expected to ensure coherence, efficiency, and long-term impact across programs and stakeholders, ultimately protecting Nigerian children from challenges like child trafficking, forced labor, and domestic abuse.
