The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to building a resilient and sustainable livestock sector in Nigeria.

The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, revealed this while x-raying the achievements of the sector within two years of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that the sector has immense potential, valued at over N33 million, and can drive economic diversification, growth, and job opportunities.

Maiha noted that despite Nigeria's large livestock population and strategic location, the sector faces challenges such as poor infrastructure, inadequate investment, and conflicts between farmers and herders, adding that the ministry plans to address these issues and unlock the sector's full potential.

He stated that the ministry's vision is to create innovative and sustainable public service programs to transform the livestock sector, increase production, and enable Nigeria to compete in the global agricultural market.

According to him, the goal is to produce sufficient meat, dairy, and other animal products for both domestic consumption and foreign markets.
