FG LAUNCHES PILOT SCHEME TO OVERHAUL DISCOS.

1 min read

The Federal Government has launched an initiative to overhaul the country's electricity distribution sector, with a pilot reform of two underperforming Distribution Companies (DisCos).

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, disclosed this in a statement by his media aide, Bolaji Tunji.

He explained that the pilot scheme would begin between May and August, targeting one DisCo in the North and another in the South, to address systemic challenges plaguing the DisCos, including governance gaps, infrastructure deficits, and commercial inefficiencies.

The Minister directed the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to enforce franchising opportunities and ensure DisCos' cooperation.

Adebu also stressed the need for public education to clarify the roles of generation, transmission, and distribution entities, and to build trust and support for the reforms.
