FG CALLS FOR BASA AGREEMENT BETWEEN NIGERIA,ITALY.

1 min read

The Federal Government has called for the revival of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and Italy to facilitate direct flights and boost trade and investment.

The Director of Economic Trade and Investment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anderson Madubuike, made the call at the Nigeria-Italy Investment Summit 2025 (NIIS 2025) in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasizing that the agreement would contribute to the economic transformation of both nations.

Madubuike highlighted the challenges passengers face due to the suspension of Alitalia’s operations in Nigeria, which has disrupted direct travel between the two countries.

Stakeholders at the meeting expressed optimism that reviving the BASA and direct flights would strengthen trade and investment opportunities, particularly in sectors like energy, infrastructure, and aviation.

Italy is seen as a significant trading partner for Nigeria, and both countries aim to diversify their economies and attract foreign direct investment.
