The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has launched the National Livestock Transformation Programme in Plateau State's Wase Local Government Area.
The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, explained that the programme aims to create a value chain in the livestock industry, provide job opportunities, and boost the state's economy, noting that the initiative includes constructing mass housing for herders and their families, earth dams for dry-season irrigation, veterinary clinics, and primary healthcare clinics.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Livestock Development, Veterinary Services and Fisheries, Dr. Sunday Akpa, said the programme will also utilize renewable energy and construct road networks within the grazing reserve, adding that the 100-hectare grazing reserve is expected to house over 20,000 cattle, attracting milk and red meat processing companies, and generating electricity from animal waste.
