The Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Maria Oligbi-Edeko, has resigned her position due to the minority status of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Assembly, citing the need for justice, fairness, and equity for all constituencies as the reason for her resignation.

Reacting to her resignation, the lawmakers commended Oligbi-Edeko for her dedication, passion for public service, and integrity during her tenure as Deputy Speaker, acknowledging contributions and commitment to the legislative process during her tenure.

Following her resignation, Osamwonyi Atu (APC-Orhionmwon East) was unanimously elected as the new Deputy Speaker.

The House also unanimously adopted a motion to accord Oligbi-Edeko all entitlements due to her office, moved by Majority Leader Jonathan Aigbokhan and seconded by Minority Leader Charity Airobarueghian.
