Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has announced plans to review existing policies against child bullying.
The initiative was revealed during the 2025 Children's Day celebration with the theme "Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation".
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Patricia Obila, frowned at the rampant cases of bullying in society, while mandating the Commissioners for Education and Women Affairs to set up a committee to work out the modalities to review policies against bullying.
Governor Nwifuru also announced plans to establish a committee, led by the Commissioners for Education and Women Affairs, to review anti-bullying policies and introduce a helpline for victims.
In her remarks,the governor's wife, Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, also pledged to expand mental health awareness by training teachers to detect and intervene in bullying cases.
The state government assured that child safety remains a top priority, urging parents, teachers, and caregivers to listen to children.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Felicia Nwamkpuma, who emphasized that creating a bullying-free generation requires collective action, encouraged children to speak up when molested to seek justice.
