CARDINALS CONVERGE IN ROME FOR CONCLAVE TO ELECT A NEW POPE.
The papal conclave is set to begin on Wednesday, where 133 Catholic cardinals will gather in secret to elect the next pope.
The cardinals will meet in the Sistine Chapel, where they will vote until one candidate achieves a two-thirds majority.
The conclave will begin with a special Mass in St. Peter's Basilica on Wednesday morning, followed by the cardinals' procession into the Sistine Chapel for voting.
Thereafter, the cardinals will take one vote on Wednesday afternoon and two votes each morning and afternoon on subsequent days.
The outcome of the voting will be signaled to the outside world through colored smoke which would either be black for an inconclusive vote and white for the successful election of a new pope, while the cardinals will remain in seclusion until a new pope is elected, determining the leader of the world's 1.4 billion Catholics.
