The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered a thorough and transparent investigation into the alleged assault on a police officer by soldiers in Ebonyi State.
The incident occurred during a traditional leadership election in Mgbom N'Achara Community, where soldiers were deployed for security duties.
A statement on Monday in Abuja by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, said that a video had gone viral, alleging that soldiers assaulted the police detective.
Anele disclosed that the Army Chief has ordered an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the conduct of the personnel involved.
The Nigerian Army warned that any personnel found guilty will be sanctioned according to military regulations, while urging the public to remain calm as the investigation is ongoing, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability in its actions.
