
ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP: INEC PUBLISHES FINAL LIST, SAYS CAMPAIGN STARTS JUNE 11.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of 16 candidates for the November 8 Anambra governorship election.
INEC National Commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, confirmed in a statement on Wednesday, that the list is final and no further withdrawal or replacement of candidates will be allowed except in the event of death before the election date.
Olumekun said the candidates' ages range from 36 to 71 years, with two parties, the African Action Congress (AAC) and National Rescue Movement (NRM), nominating female candidates, while six parties including Accord, All Progressives Congress (APC), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), Labour Party (LP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), have female running mates.
The Commissioner revealed that notable candidates include the incumbent, Charles Soludo of APGA, Eze Nwafo Jude of PDP, Nwosu John of ADC, Ukachukwu Nicholas of APC, and George Mogbalu of LP, adding that the full list of candidates with their party affiliations, ages, genders, and academic qualifications is available on INEC's website and social media platforms.
Noting that electioneering campaigns would begin on June 11 and end on November 6, INEC warned political parties, candidates, and supporters against using abusive language, engaging in physical attacks, or destroying campaign materials, citing Sections 92 and 93 of the Electoral Act 2022, stressing that all parties must have unimpeded access to public facilities for campaigns and rallies.
