AKUME HIGHLIGHTS NIGERIA'S ACHIEVEMENTS AFTER 26 YEARS OF DEMOCRATIC RULE.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has highlighted Nigeria's progress in democratic rule, noting that many African countries are sliding back into military rule and dictatorship.
Speaking at the Public Lecture of Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Day celebration, Akume reiterated the country's commitment to democratic governance despite challenges.
He also paid tribute to the ordinary Nigerian citizens who fought for democracy, facing military oppression, brutality, and rights denial, noting that the June 12 struggle was a watershed moment that birthed Nigeria’s new democratic journey, therefore the sacrifices made by many will never be forgotten.
The SGF praised President Bola Tinubu, a key figure in Nigeria’s struggle for democracy, for his commitment to democratic principles and efforts to re-engineer Nigeria.
Highlighting President Tinubu's reforms, tackling economic challenges, and building infrastructure for rapid development, he stated that their impact is visible, and Nigeria is on the right track.
