Senate President Godswill Akpabio has criticized Labour Party's 2023 former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for saying the efforts of Nigeria's past leaders were in vain.
Akpabio made the remarks during a valedictory session honoring late elder statesman, Pa Edwin Clark, noting that Nigeria's existence despite its challenges is a testament to past leaders' contributions.
He stated that Obi should focus on resolving the Labour Party's internal crises before criticizing national issues.
Highlighting achievements as governor, including infrastructure development, investments in health and education, and promoting religious unity, Akpabio compared them with Obi's inability to resolve the Labour Party's leadership crisis.
The Senate President urged Obi to demonstrate leadership within his party before aspiring to lead the country.
Akpabio's comments followed Obi's reactions to the worsening economic and social conditions in Nigeria, questioning the sacrifices of past leaders.
Other leaders like Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu have also rebuked for perceived inconsistencies in his comments on national issues.
