World leaders have pledged an additional $170 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) to support its efforts in addressing global health challenges.
The pledges were made during a high-level event at the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva.
The contributions are aimed at helping the global health body to implement its 14th General Programme of Work, to save 40 million lives over the next four years.
WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, expressed gratitude to member states and partners, highlighting the importance of multilateralism in global health efforts.
Notable pledges include $8 million from Angola, $13.5 million from Sweden, and $40 million from Switzerland, demonstrating a commitment to global health and helping the WHO to expand its life-saving work and enhance its responsiveness to national health priorities.
