U-20 AFCON: FLYING EAGLES BEAT EGYPT TO WIN THIRD-PLACE.
Nigeria's Flying Eagles have secured a bronze medal at the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating host nation Egypt 4-1 in a penalty shootout.
The match, which was played at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, ended 1-1 after regular time, with Egypt taking the lead with Osama Omar's goal in the third minute, but Bidemi Amole equalized for Nigeria just two minutes into the second half.
The penalty shootout saw Nigeria convert all four of their spot kicks through Emmanuel Chukwu, Israel Ayuma, Kparobo Arierhi, and Tahir Maigana, while Egypt's Mohamed Atef and Ahmed Kabaka had their penalties saved by Nigeria's goalkeeper, Abubakar Rufai, who was introduced in the 94th minute.
The Flying Eagles, who clinched their fifth bronze medal in Under-20 AFCON history, had lost to South Africa 1-0 in the semifinals, while Egypt fell to Morocco by the same scoreline.
Recall that Nigeria had already secured a spot in the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile.
