The Nigerian Army's 6 Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, has arrested 38 suspected oil thieves and deactivated 28 illegal refining sites in the Niger Delta region.
A statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Danjuma, said the operations, conducted between May 12 and 18, 2025, resulted in the recovery of over 700,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.
Danjuma revealed that the troops carried out targeted operations in various states, including Rivers and Akwa Ibom, destroying locally made boats used for illegal bunkering activities.
He noted that significant seizures were made, including stolen crude oil, Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO), cooking ovens, reservoirs, pumping machines, and generators.
The General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, commended the troops for their successes and urged them to maintain the momentum.
He reassured that the welfare of the troops remains a top priority, as the operations continue to combat oil theft in the region.
