Support staff of the Warri Refining & Petrochemical Company in Delta State have embarked on an indefinite strike, shutting down the facility over poor working conditions and salaries.
The staff, who make up 80% of the workforce, are demanding better welfare packages, including improved salaries, medical allowances, and pension benefits.
They also vowed to remain at the gate until their demands are met, despite the management's refusal to comment on the issue.
The protesters led by Dafe Ighomiteso, said they had been agitating for good conditions of service since 2015, with some staff members earning as low as ₦34,500 per month and they had been working for up to 18 years without adequate compensation.
