STOP CALLING MY DAUGHTER ‘DUDUKE’, SIMI TELLS FANS
Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has asked fans to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as "Duduke."
The nickname became popular after Simi released her hit single Duduke in 2020, a heartfelt song dedicated to her unborn child. Following the birth of her daughter in June 2020, fans began affectionately calling the child “Duduke” in reference to the track.
However, in a recent interview with VJ Adams, Simi clarified that she doesn’t appreciate the nickname, explaining that Duduke is not her daughter's name and holds no actual meaning.
“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name, and it doesn’t even mean anything,” she said. “If it meant something positive, maybe I wouldn’t mind. But it’s just a sound—duduke, duduke—representing how my heart beats for her. It’s onomatopoeic.”
She added with a laugh, “Stop calling my child Duduke. But I understand it comes from a place of love, so I try not to overreact.”
Simi and her husband, fellow artist Adekunle Gold, have remained protective of their daughter’s identity while occasionally sharing glimpses of their family life.
