Nigerian soldiers have successfully repelled an attempted attack by ISWAP terrorists on Marte town in Borno State.
The insurgents were said to have launched the attack around 2am, but were swiftly engaged by troops stationed in the town, with reinforcements from the Brigade Headquarters and decisive air support from the Nigerian Air Force.
The coordinated response overwhelmed the terrorists, forcing them to flee in disarray and abandon their objective to overrun the town but two soldiers lost their lives during the intense firefight, although their bravery ensured the safety of the town and its residents.
Thereafter, the terrorists escaped with a few motorcycles and two vehicles after setting ablaze some unserviceable military vehicles but the area remains under full control of Nigerian forces, and the Brigade Commander is currently on ground to oversee post-operation assessments and strengthen defensive positions.
