S/AFRICA CLINCHES 2025 U-20 AFCON CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER HISTORIC WIN OVER MOROCCO.
South Africa has won their maiden CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations title with a 1-0 victory over Morocco in the final.
Gomolemo Kekana's stunning second-half strike proved decisive, as the Southern Africans claimed the trophy and overcame a North African opponent in the tournament for the first time.
The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams showcasing impressive defensive organization, as Morocco created better chances in the first half, but South African goalkeeper Fletcher Lowe was in inspired form and Kekana's goal in the 70th minute, which was a powerful right-footed effort from outside the box, proved to be the difference-maker.
South Africa's victory marks a historic moment for the team, ending a run of five previous defeats against North African opposition.
The win, which also highlights the team's defensive resolve, with Lowe ending the tournament with the most saves (24), is South Africa's first-ever youth continental triumph, and they have now joined a growing list of recent debut winners.
