RWANDA MOVES TO SIGN PEACE DEAL WITH DR CONGO IN THE US.

1 min read

Rwanda's Foreign Minister, Olivier Nduhungirehe, has announced that a final peace deal to end the crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is expected to be signed in mid-June in Washington.

This follows talks between the DRC and Rwanda in the US, where they agreed to reach a draft peace deal.

This comes a day after US Special Envoy for Africa Massad Boulos received draft texts on a peace proposal from both countries, marking an important step towards fulfilling their commitments.

Olivier said that foreign ministers from both countries will meet in Washington to finalize the draft peace agreement aimed at ending the crisis sparked by the M23 rebels' advances in eastern DRC, which has killed thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands.

Meanwhile, Rwanda has denied supporting the M23, but the conflict has strained relations between the two countries.
