POVERTY ARCHITECT OF GROWING INSECURITY IN NORTHERN NIGERIA- GOV SANI.

1 min read

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has attributed the root cause of insecurity in northern Nigeria to poverty and economic exclusion.

The governor emphasized that if these issues are not addressed holistically, the region will continue to face unrest.

Governor Sani made this known on Sunday, citing alarming statistics, including a poverty index of over 60-65% in the North-West and 350,000 out-of-school children in Kaduna State when he assumed office.

He noted that financial exclusion made many young people vulnerable to recruitment by armed groups, hence the need for a comprehensive approach to address the socio-economic challenges driving insecurity.

The governor urged Northern leaders to unite in tackling poverty and unemployment, highlighting infrastructural, educational, and healthcare deficits as major contributors to the region's poverty.

According to him, the North accounts for about 70% of Nigeria's 18.2 million out-of-school children, although efforts are being made to gradually address the problem.
