The Nigerian Army has denied allegations of neglecting widows of fallen soldiers, stating that it has a robust welfare system in place.
The Army explained that the system provides various benefits, including gratuity, burial expenses, financial support, and insurance schemes, adding that it also runs a scholarship program for children of deceased personnel up to the tertiary education level.
The army's Acting Director of Public Relations, LIeutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, who noted that the allegations were disturbing, urged individuals making claims to come forward with specific details and evidence.
Stating that this would enable the army to investigate and address any legitimate concerns, Anele reaffirmed the Army's commitment to transparency, accountability, and zero tolerance for abuse or exploitation.
She encouraged anyone with credible evidence of misconduct to report through official channels, promising prompt disciplinary action.
The army reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the welfare of personnel and their families.
